Ancillary services
Shopping for Ancillary Services
Also known as Optional Services.
There are several ways to shop for ancillary services in Smartpoint. If you are:
- Selling a Direct Payment Carrier from an Air Availability response, use the terminal entry: DAS*Cxx.
- Shopping for ancillary services from a Flight Shopping response, use the Shopping Cart in PNR/Booking File Viewer.
- Shopping for ancillary services for a Direct Payment Carrier from a Fare Shopping response, use the Shopping Cart in PNR/Booking File Viewer.
- Selecting a Branded Fare from a Fare Shopping response.
- Shopping for ancillary services with modifiers. For example: DAS**M for merchandising services or DAS**F for flight-related services.
For formats, see Ancillary Services (DAS) in the Travelport+ Format Guide. Travelport+ (1G) and Apollo (1V) use the same formats for ancillary services.
Shopping for Ancillary Services from the PNR/Booking FileViewer
To shop for ancillary services from the PNR/Booking File Viewer:
-
If applicable, ensure that any frequent flyer numbers are added for the passengers. Because loyalty memberships may affect ancillary prices, frequent flyer numbers should be added before selling ancillaries to ensure that the passenger is offered all of the applicable services and appropriate charge amounts.
-
For Network (GDS) Carriers, book the itinerary.
-
Typically, ancillary services are available for Network Carriers only after the itinerary is booked and a PNR/Booking File is created.
-
Typically, ancillary services are available before booking for Direct Payment Carriers. However, specific services may be available only after booking.
-
-
From the PNR/Booking File Viewer Window, click the Shopping Cart icon or enter DAS*.
Why is the Shopping Cart icon not displayed? The Shopping Cart icon displays for all retrieved PNRs/Booking Files and during booking for Direct Payment Carriers. If you not see the Shopping Cart icon, confirm that your PNR/Booking Files:
-
Is priced.
For Direct Payment Carriers, the color of the pound sign/hash tag indicator for the flight segment indicates if the segment has a fare quote. If the indicator is green #, the segment is priced. If the indicator is blue #, the segment is not priced and a warning is returned if you attempt shop for ancillary services.
-
Contains a Name field. If the passenger names are not added in the PNR, a warning is returned.
-
Is not a group booking.
Smartpoint does not currently support ancillary services through the Shopping Cart. Use terminal formats to request ancillary services for group bookings.
See Ancillary Services (DAS) in the Travelport+ Format Guide. Travelport+ (1G) and Apollo (1V) use the same formats for ancillary services.
If applicable, the Ancillary Services Currency screen displays the default currency for the ancillary services.
-
-
Confirm the default currency for the ancillary services, or enter an override currency code in the Currency text box.
More Information- For ticketed carriers, the currency for the ancillary services must be the same as the currency for the ticket.
- If your agency uses dual currencies, you can use currency override to the price ancillary services in an alternate currency.
-
Click the Continue to display the Ancillary Services screen.
Note: Clicking the Shopping Cart icon or entering DAS* displays the general ancillary services screen. See shopping for ancillary services with modifiers to search for specific ancillary modifiers.
Why do ancillary services not display?- For Direct Payment Carriers, ancillary services and interactive seat maps do not display until the carrier generates a vendor locator. You may need to wait until the carrier has generated a vendor locator (*VL) to open or complete the purchase of the ancillary services.
- Ancillary services are displayed only for confirmed (Status HK) segments.
More InformationIf one or more segments are unconfirmed, a warning is displayed at the top of the Ancillary Services window.
If all segments are unconfirmed, a warning message is displayed.
Why am I not able to select some displayed ancillary services? Or, why is a service automatically added that I did not select? For ancillary services that are viewed before end transact, an ancillary service box:
- May not be displayed for a segment.
- May be shaded and cannot be selected.
- May be shaded and contain a service selection that you did not select.
These situations can occur if:
- The airline provides services based on the entire trip or for combined segments within the trip. This type of faring is known as Origin and Destination or O&D.
- If the airline provides services by individual segments in the trip, you can select individual services for each segment in the trip.
- If the airline services by Origin and Destination, the same service must be selected for all segments in the trip that are combined by the specific faring for that itinerary. Therefore, you can only make an ancillary service selection for the first applicable segment in a combined set of segments.
- The airline requires an ancillary service to be applied to all passengers in the itinerary.
The airline may require services such as Lounge Access, Priority Boarding, or Meals. Service descriptions and warning messages can indicate if an ancillary service applies to all passengers.
ExampleIn the following example:
- For Check-In Baggage, the faring for itinerary combines connecting Segments 1 and 2 to provide baggage service to the destination airport.
- Lounge Service for Segments 1 and 2 is available separately because each departure airport in the connecting flight has a lounge.
- Complimentary Corporate Meal is selected and shaded because it is available only for all passengers in the itinerary, and was previously selected for another passenger in the itinerary.
- Fast Forward priority boarding is selected for this passenger, so it will be added automatically for all other passengers in the itinerary.
Which fee application types are displayed? The following fee application types are supported in Smartpoint:
-
1 – per one way
-
2 – per round trip
-
3 – per item
-
4 – per travel
-
5 – per ticket
-
F – per 5 kg
-
K – per 1 kg
If a carrier returns an fee application type that is not support in Smartpoint, the response varies depending on the version of Smartpoint:
-
In Smartpoint 11.3 and earlier, an error message is displayed: Nullable object must have a value.
-
In Smartpoint 11.4 and later, only ancillaries that have supported or no fee application types are displayed. An error message is not displayed.
-
Optional. Click the Filter arrow in the upper right corner to limit the displayed ancillary services to a selected group code (type). Available group codes vary depending on the services available for the itinerary and the categories designated by the airline.
-
Optional. Select Include View-Only Services to also display services that cannot be purchased through Smartpoint ancillary services.
View-Only services can be purchased at the airport or through another channel. Ancillary services that are view-only may depend on the filing type used for the service.
More InformationAncillary services that are view-only may depend on the filing type used for the service. For example, airport checked baggage varies depending on the type of filing:
- Smartpoint 9.0 and earlier support selection only of pre-paid bags (Type P) bags. Bags with airport check-in are view-only ancillaries.
- Smartpoint 9.1 and later support both pre-paid and airport checked baggage using the new ATPCO C-category for baggage, if the appropriate data has been filed.
-
For the desired ancillary services, enter the quantity of the service in the appropriate columns.
More Information-
Depending on the type of service, an ancillary service can apply to individual flight segments or to more than one segment.
ExampleFrom the preceding sample screen:
-
The First Extra PC service displays in the column for Segment 1-2, which indicates that the service can be purchased once to apply to the first two flights.
-
The Comfort Seat service displays for each flight, so three purchases are necessary if the passenger wants a Comfort Seat for all three flights in the itinerary.
-
-
If you hover over a quantity box, the maximum quantity for the service is displayed.
-
If you hover over a service name, a brief description of the service may display, such as the maximum quantity for that type of service, a description of prices in a range, and an indication if baggage prices are by weight or piece.
-
Some prices may be displayed as a range if the offering is a tiered service.
Example-
1-2 bags at $25.00 indicates that the first two bags in the selected type are $25.00 each.
-
3-99 bags at $45.00 indicates the third bag and any subsequent bags in the selected type are $45.00 each.
-
-
In Smartpoint 11.2 and later, excess baggage fees may be offered by weight.
More InformationIn Smartpoint 11.1 and earlier, excess baggage fees were supported only by unit of baggage. In Smartpoint 11.2 and later, excess bag fees may be offered by weight, if supported by the airline.
To view excess baggage fees by weight:
-
Click the EXCESS BAGGAGE WEIGHT icon.
-
Confirm the quantity, unit of weight, and price per unit. The unit of weight and the price are filed by the carrier and may vary. See the fare rules for details.
Note:MAX QUANTITY: 99 indicates the maximum number of instances of the unit, NOT the total weight or price. In this example, the unit is a range of up to 5 KG, and the price is 146.30 GBP for one unit. A maximum of 99 instances of the 5 KG unit supports a maximum total weight of 495 KG with a price of 731.50 GBP. -
Close the pop-up window to redisplay the Ancillary Services screen.
-
In Excess Baggage Weight, enter the quantity of units.
-
If applicable. Add a comment. Click the SSR Free Text icon to display the Add Free Form Text screen.
Note: Some carriers require comment SSRs with the excess baggage ancillaries. Confirm with the carrier if they require a comment with this ancillary service, and if they require specific data or formatting for the text. -
See Step 9 for instructions to enter free text SSRs.
Note: The text in this screen capture is an example only. Confirm with the carrier if they require specific data or formatting for the free text.
9. If applicable. After the ancillary is sold successfully and the status is confirmed, issue an EMD. The EMD will process correctly with the weight-based ancillary.
-
-
If you enter an incorrect amount for the service, the amount box is outlined in red.
ExampleIf you enter "4" for a the amount of carry-on baggage, which has a limit of "2" for the airline, the box displays in red.
-
Entering multiple flight-associated (F Type) ancillary services varies depending on the version of Smartpoint.
More Information-
Smartpoint 11.0 and earlier. Multiple instances of the same service must be entered in terminal formats using native mode.
-
Smartpoint 11.1 and later. multiple instances of the same service can be entered in the Ancillary Services screen.
Note: The Ancillary Services screen permits a maximum quantity of 99 for all flight-associated ancillaries. However, the quantity of an ancillary permitted is determined by the carrier, which may not confirm an ancillary request that exceeds their maximum quantity.

You can view the selected paid seats and other ancillary services.
-
Depending on the carrier and fare, you may also be able to modify or cancel paid seats and other ancillary services in Smartpoint. For some carriers, you may need to contact the carrier directly to modify or cancel ancillary services.
For more information about ancillary services for a specific airline, search for the airline by name or airline code in General Information or EMD Fact Sheets in the Travelport Knowledge Base in MyTravelport.

ASVC (Additional Service) SSRs communicate flight-associated services, such as eats, meals, pillows, and baggage. An EMD-A (EMD Associated) is issued based on the ASVC SSR, and is linked to the specific Electronic Ticket (ET) flight coupon in the airline's ET database.
-
The Service (SVC) Segments communicate services not associated to a specific flight that are sold from the ISM database. These services include reservations change fees, group deposits, and lounge access. An EMD-S (EMD Stand-Alone) is issued for services based on the SVC.
