PDF to Printer Driver (German Market)
This topic explains how to configure a PDF to Printer driver (German Market). It continues the procedure started in Adding and Configuring Device Drivers. This topic also explains how to add additional form codes to or remove form codes from a configured PDF to Printer driver.
Notes:
- If you are connecting to a network printer to print a Portable Document Format (PDF) file, make sure that you have the correct permissions. See Configuring Network Printer Permissions or Printing to a Network Printer in a Workgroup Environment.
- This procedure is not the same as creating and printing a PDF file. See Creating PDF Files.
- Because Galileo Print Manager.net runs as a Windows service, it does not run on the user-interface level of the operating system, and it does not display dialog boxes. Because of this, if you select a PDF Writer, Microsoft XPS Document Writer, or some other printer that requires user input, that dialog box might not display.
After clicking Next in the first Add Device wizard dialog box (see Adding and Configuring Device Drivers), the next Add Device wizard dialog box for PDF to Printer driver configuration appears:
This dialog box enables you to specify form types supported by the printer. The PDF to Printer driver supports additional parameters that include Form Code, Bin, and other configuration settings. For more information, see Configuring Additional Form Codes for PDF to Printer Device Drivers (German Market).
-
In the Available Printers list, select the Windows printer to use for PDF data printing.
Notes:
- Alternatively, select Use the Default Printer. If selected, print jobs are sent to the default windows printer instead of the windows printer configured for the device. If not selected, the configured windows printer is used regardless of any default windows printer. Note that the Use the Default Printer selection does not work for print jobs generated by using the Test Print button on the GPM.NET Status window.
- If you are connecting to a network printer to print a PDF file, make sure that you have the correct permissions. See Configuring Network Printer Permissions or Printing to a Network Printer in a Workgroup Environment.
-
To indicate that documents sent to the printer should not include line feed characters, select Ignore Line Feed Characters.
Notes:
- Line feed characters generate blank lines on a document. Some printers are configured to add both line feeds and carriage returns. This setting enables you to override what is sent in the data.
- If selected, line feed characters in the data are not sent to the printer.
- If not selected, line feed characters in the data are sent to the printer. Double-spacing between lines might occur.
-
Indicate whether to use the default form template file (PaginationSettings.xml) or one you have set up manually.
- To use the standard form template file included as part of the installation (PaginationSettings.xml), select Default.
- To use a custom-configured form template file, select Configure, click the Browse button, and then select the file. For more information, see Configuring Additional Form Codes for PDF to Printer Device Drivers (German Market).
- In the Form Code field, type the code for the type of pre-defined form to use. For example, form code 6036 could be an itinerary form with a pre-defined letterhead printed on A4 paper.
-
Select the printer bin in which the forms are stored from the Bin drop-down list.
Notes:
- Some enterprise-level printers have restrictions on their use. For example, a company can enforce a policy on printers to ignore any application's selection of paper bin or source. This policy overrides any choice of paper bin or source sent by the calling application and enables the printer to automatically select the bin based on paper size. If you want to use the PDF to Printer driver to select a paper bin, ensure that an enterprise-level setting or other setting does not exist that will override your selection.
- If no paper bin/source restrictions exist, the paper bin selection made in the PDF to Printer driver when it was initially configured will be used.
- To add a form code row that has the options you selected to the grid area, click Add.
-
To add more form code rows to the grid, repeat steps 4-8 for each row to add.
Note: To remove a form code row from the grid area, select the row, and then click Delete.
-
When finished, click Next.
The final Add Device wizard dialog box appears:
- Click Finish.
