Low Fare Shopping Model

Low Fare Shop functionality combines air availability and a fare quote request to return the lowest available fares for a specified itinerary, using origin/destination and date information. Fares are available for one-way, round-trip, and multi-city travel. Low Fare Shop does not require a booked itinerary to return fare data.

Low Fare Shop serves as a fare shopper tool for users who want to check prices for a general itinerary. It is best suited for fare-driven travelers. A number of modifiers can be added to the Low Fare Shop request to return specified responses. These modifiers include: time period, included or excluded carriers, private fare modifiers, and passenger types.

If a search is more oriented toward scheduling or availability than lowest fare options, the Air Availability and Pricing Model can be used as an alternative to a Low Fare Shopping transaction.

The following table represents a basic, end-to-end flow of a Low Fare Shopping (LFS) model. Certain transactions within this flow can be modified.

Feature

Description

Low Fare Shopping (LFS)

Required. Combines air availability and a fare quote request to return the lowest available fares for a specified itinerary, using origin/destination and date information. Low Fare Shopping does not require a booked itinerary to return fare data.

A number of modifiers can be added to the Low Fare Shopping request to return specified responses. These modifiers include: flexible dates and times, included or excluded carriers, private fare modifiers, and passenger types.

Air Pricing

Always recommended, sometimes required. Prices selected availability/pricing options from the Low Fare Shopping response.

In the Low Fare Shopping model, prices are returned with availability, so pricing is not a discrete function. However, to confirm accuracy of the priced data, a follow-on Air Pricing transaction is recommended.

Also, some Low Cost Carriers do not include full pricing information (such as taxes and fees) in the LFS response. In these cases, a follow-on Air Pricing transaction is required.

Fare Rules

Required. Fare rules supply the requirements or penalties associated with a specific fare quote.

For brevity, Low Fare Shopping responses do not include fare rules. Therefore, a follow-on Fare Rules request is required to obtain rules information.

Seat Map

Optional. Seat maps display which seats are available for a given flight, as well as their location within the aircraft.

Availability of seat maps varies by supplier and specific flight.

Air Booking

Required. After flight and fare options are selected, the priced segment can be reserved.

Air booking can include a number of modifiers, such as seat assignments (generic or specific), ticket designators, SSRs/OSIs and other types of remarks, and tour codes, as well as forms of payment.

Ticketing

The booked flights may be ticketed. Fares (even stored fares) can be subject to change up to the point of ticketing.
