Air Availability and Pricing Model

The following table represents the typical Air Availability and Pricing model for search, selection, booking, and ticketing. Certain transactions within this flow can be modified, and additional functionality can be included.

Functionality Description

Air Availability

Required. Requests availability for flights that occur within the parameters of the requested itinerary.

A number of modifiers can be added to the Air Availability request to return specified responses. These modifiers include: time ranges, included or excluded carriers, private fare modifiers, and passenger types.

Air Pricing

Required. Prices available flights based on a variety of factors.

Pricing is generally performed as a separate transaction, following availability, for schedule-driven itineraries.

In the Air Availability model, pricing (fare quote) occurs after an available flight and class of service (booking class) is selected.

Fare Rules

Optional, but recommended. Fare rules supply the requirements or penalties associated with a specific fare quote.

By default, short (abridged) fare rules are returned with an Air Pricing response. However, a separate follow-on request is recommended to obtain more detailed fare rules.

Seat Map

Optional. Seat maps display which seats are available for a given flight, as well as their location within the aircraft.

Availability of seat maps varies by supplier and specific flight.

Air Booking

Required. After flight and fare options are selected, the priced segment can be reserved.

Air booking can include a number of modifiers, such as seat assignments (generic or specific), ticket designators, SSRs/OSIs and other types of remarks, and tour codes as well as forms of payment.

Ticketing

The booked flights may be ticketed. Fares (even stored fares) can be subject to change up to the point of ticketing.
