American Airlines Seats
Important: American Airlines paid seats post-book functionality is available in beta and is only available to Apollo (1V) US point of sale agencies (PCCs). Customers must have special provisioning to return American paid seat maps. Contact your Travelport representative for more information.
As of October 2016, American Airlines paid seats are supported post-book if the reservation was completed using Farelogix, American Airlines' API provider. To book an American Airlines paid seat:
- Complete the reservation using Farelogix.
-
If you are using SeatMap v35.0 or later, you can skip this step. If you are using SeatMap v34.0 or earlier, send an Air Merchandising Offer Availability request with a HostReservation.
Note: SeatMap v34.0 or earlier does not return the OptionalService element, which is required for the Air Merchandising Fulfillment request. If you are using SeatMap v34.0 or earlier, the Air Merchandising Offer Availability request is required because it returns the OptionalService element.
- Send SeatMapReq with ReturnSeatPricing="true".
-
SeatMapRsp returns:
- If using SeatMap v34.0 or earlier, the response contains Row/Facility @Source="ACH".
-
If using SeatMap v35.0 and later, the response contains:
- OptionalService @Source="ACH"
-
OptionalService/EMD @Booking="SSR", which indicates that credit card form of payment should not be sent in the AirMerchandisingFulfillmentReq. AA will not issue the EMD; the EMD must be issued via Universal API or via the provider.
- OptionalService/EMD @FulfillmentType
- Send AirMerchandisingFulfillmentReq with the HostReservation.
-
AirMerchandisingFulfillmentRsp contains the seat reservation status in OptionalService @ServiceStatus.
- Create an EMD via Universal API or the provider for the paid seat. American Airlines does not issue the EMD.
Errors and Warnings
IMPORTANT Paid seats post-book functionality is available in beta and is only available to Apollo (1V) US point of sale agencies (PCCs). This functionality is NOT available to Galileo (1G), or Worldspan (1P) customers. Customers must have special provisioning to return American paid seat maps. Contact your Travelport representative for more information.
When an Air Merchandising Fulfillment request is sent with a paid seat optional service and the booking was not made using Farelogix, the following error or warning may be returned.
- An error is returned when all optional services sent in the AirMerchandisingFulfillmentReq fail. The error message is: Merchandising request unsuccessful - please retrieve UR/PNR, check status and report issue immediately. PNR is not eligible for AA PreReservedSeatAssignment.
- A warning message is returned in the AirMerchandisingFulfillmentRsp when some, but not all, optional services sent in the AirMerchandisingFulfillmentReq fail. The warning message is: PNR is not eligible for AA PreReservedSeatAssignment.
Notes:
- To be eligible to book American Airline paid seats, the reservation must be completed via Farelogix.
- A SeatMapReq with ReturnSeatPricing="false" will not return paid seating.
- Credit card form of payment is not sent in the AirMerchandisingFulfillmentReq, returned in the response, or saved in the Universal Record. American Airlines will not issue the EMD; the EMD must be issued via Universal API or via the provider for the paid seat.
- If the seat is changed from one paid seat to another paid seat, the OptionalService of the paid seat reflects the information pertaining to the highest amount paid because American Airlines does not refund the difference.
- American Airlines paid seats are not returned in the AirMerchandisingOfferAvailabilityRsp pre-book.
- American Airlines paid seat prices may vary from the actual price in the Air Merchandising Offer Availability response (post-book) and the Seat Map responses (pre-book).
- When a reservation is changed from one paid seat to another paid seat, the old seat number is now captured in history (OptionalService/ServiceData @Data) for Air Booking, Air Update, Air Exchange, UR Retrieve Sync, UR Modify Sync, Air Cancel, Air Refund, UR Cancel, and Air Merchandising Fulfillment.
- If a Premium fare (Y fare) is chosen, then the traveler will be entitled to a premium seat at no charge. The highest tier member status applies to all passengers in the PNR.
- Codeshare flights are supported for paid seating for operating carriers RP, AE, MQ, and AX.
- If the currency sent in the ACH request is not supported, the default is USD.
- Seat maps and assignments are not supported for change of gauge flights.
-
It is possible that in the AirMerchandisingFulfillmentRsp, the seat assignment of the AA paid seat is not returned and the ASVC SSR Status of the AA paid seat is "NN". When this occurs, a subsequent UniversalRecordRetrieveReq should be sent. In the UniversalRecordRetrieveRsp, the seat assignment should be returned and the ASVC SSR Status should be "KD" if an EMD must be issued or "KK" if an EMD does not need to be issued.
