Update Universal Desktop

Note: If you are a Citrix Microsoft Terminal Services user, see your Citrix admin for new software releases. Do not follow the steps below.

If you already have a version of Universal Desktop installed and a new version is released, screens display while launching or using the Universal Desktop application to let you know that an update exists. You can update in the following ways:

  • On Universal Desktop launch, a dialog displays with update information.
  • While using Universal Desktop, you are notified that an update exists.
  • Time-specific updates are scheduled by an administrator.
  • Manually uninstall the existing version and install the new version of Universal Desktop.

Note: If any of the installation scenarios fail, uninstall and reinstall Universal Desktop or contact your system administrator.

Update on Launch

If a previously released version of Universal Desktop is on your machine and a newer version is available, when you launch Universal Desktop a dialog box displays to install a newer version.

New Release Available - Update Now

This screen displays when an update is available and an update is required immediately. Click Update Now to install the newest release of the software. Alternatively, click the red X to close the update notice. The notice displays every time the software is launched until the application is installed.

Software Expires Soon - Update Now

This screen displays when the software has a time limit to update. Click Update Now to update the software. Alternatively, click Ask Me Later to delay the installation. If the software is not installed before the expiration, you will be forced to install the application before usage.

Software Expired – Update Now

You must click Update Now to install the new version of the software before you can use Universal Desktop. The application will not run otherwise.

Software Expiring – No Update

This dialog box displays if no update is available for you to install. Contact your system administrator to get a new version of the software installed. Click OK to use Universal Desktop until the software expires.

Software Expired – No Update

This dialog box displays if your version has expired and there is no update available for your software. Click Ok to close the application. Contact your system administrator.

Update During Use

The following screens display when a Universal Desktop update is downloading or installing while the software is in use.

Download and Optional Restart

The following Downloading Updates progress bar displays in Universal Desktop in the lower right corner of the application when an updated is being downloaded from within the application.

The following dialog box displays after the update downloads. Click Restart Now to restart the application. Alternatively, click Later to close the dialog box. The next time the application is restarted the updated version of the software will launch.

Immediate Install and Restart

The following screen displays when an immediate update is required and installed while using Universal Desktop.

When complete, the following screen displays. Click Restart Now to resume your work in Universal Desktop.

Application Updates on Close

After logging in to Universal Desktop, the Software Update Notice screen may display to advise you that the software will update when the application is closed. Click Ok.

When the application is closed, a progress bar displays showing the rate at which the software downloads. When the software is downloaded, the Download Complete dialog box displays. Click Close, or the dialog box will close after 10 seconds. The software will be updated upon the next launch.

Time-Specific Update

Several updates to the Universal Desktop software are time-specific. When these dialog boxes display, click either Ok or Start Now. A dialog box displays when the update downloads.

New Update Available: Download time

This Software Update Notice dialog box indicates the software will update at a specified time. You can continue working; the update installs when the software is closed. Click Ok.

Note: The computer must be left on.

Update Download Starting in Set Time

This dialog box advises you that Universal Desktop is about to perform an update. The timer starts at 30 seconds and counts down. When the countdown reaches 0, the dialog closes and system performs an immediate update. Click Start Now to start the update before the timer reaches 0.

Update Scheduled at Specific Time

This Update Reminder dialog box is a reminder that an update is scheduled for a specific time. The Universal Desktop application will close if it is still running. Click Ok.

Note: The computer must be left on.

Software Download Indicator

When the update to Universal Desktop is downloading, the following dialog box displays. The application closes when the download is complete.

Click Restart Now after the new version is installed and log in with your username and password. Alternatively, click Later to continue working on the earlier version. The new version will install when the application restarts.
