Apply Configured Fares and Fare Caps

The next processing steps apply if any of the following options are selected in the In/Out of Policy Options section of the Policy Options and Exclusions screen. Although the screen below shows the options for domestic flights, the corresponding settings for international flights are used instead if applicable.

First, if Mark as in policy all fares equal to or less than X currency units on domestic flights is selected, Universal Policy loops through all price points to compare the fare amount of each price point to this configured fare amount. If a price point total exceeds the configured fare amount, Universal Policy marks the price point out-of-policy.

Next, if Mark as in policy all fares equal to or less than Lowest Recommended Fare is configured, Universal Policy finds the requested departure time of the leg being processed and calculates the lowest recommended fare (LRF) window by adding and subtracting the configured amount from the requested time. It loops through the flight options / options for each price point and checks if the departure time for the first segment in an option falls within the LRF time window. If any option has a flight that falls within the window in which the fare can be considered for the LRF, that fare amount is compared to the current LRF and replaces it if lower. When finished, Universal Policy adds to the response a message with the lowest recommended fare found during evaluation.

Universal Policy then loops through all the price points again to compare the fare amount to the LRF amount. If any price point total exceeds the LRF amount, that price point is marked out-of-policy.

Universal Policy then applies any of the following configured fare cap options:

  • Mark as in policy all fares on preferred airlines that are equal to or less than the fare cap for the location
  • Mark as in policy all fares on non-preferred airlines that are equal to or less than the fare cap for the location

Note that the fare caps themselves are configured on the Add/Edit Fare Cap screen.

Universal Policy determines the fare cap for a given routing. To be applied, the configured fare cap must match the routing and the travel dates. If multiple caps apply, Universal Policy uses the lowest value. Universal Policy loops through all price points. If a price point is preferred, Universal Policy marks it as preferred. If a price point exceeds the LRF amount, it is marked out-of-policy. If a price point is non-preferred, it is marked as non-preferred. If a price point total exceeds the LRF amount it is marked as out-of-policy. Fare cap processing uses the preferred segment rankings and the total price or approximate total price from each price point.
