Caching Guidelines

Image reference URLs or images or can be cached locally to avoid making unnecessary calls to GWS or to the Image Viewer Server. If a URL is cached, the photo can be retrieved any time by entering the URL into a page displayed to the web browser. Caching also minimizes the impact of any outage on the Image Viewer Server complex.

The Image Viewer Server checks for image updates (additions, deletions, or modifications) every 12 hours; however, new image updates may actually be added less frequently. New or modified images typically account for the small percentage of the total Image Viewer images in an update. Therefore, while images are updated regularly, weekly caching for property URLs or images is typically sufficient to ensure that current property images are available.
