Mileage

1. The maximum permitted mileage (MPM) is published in connection with a fare indicating the maximum distance in air miles a passenger is allowed to travel between two specific points (origin and destination of a fare component). MPM will be calculated at 120% of the SOM (shortest operated mileage) between the points concerned (TPM x 1.20 = MPM).

2. The ticketed point mileage (TPM) is the shortest operated route mileages between ticketed points shown in the fare calculation ladder including connections using currently available non-stop sector mileages.

MPM and TPM may be published for the same city pair for different global directions of travel:

CARRIER SPECIFIC EXCEPTIONS EXIST FOR UA

3. The extra mileage allowance (EMA) is a TPM deduction or published bonus mileage that is deducted from the total TPM (depending on area/subarea locations of origin/destination and via point of the fare component).

In case there are two possible EMAs, the best EMA must be chosen, as you may only apply one EMA at a time.

4. Excess mileage surcharges (EMS) occur when the route traveled exceeds the maximum permitted mileage published between the origin and destination of the fare component. Surcharges are incremented by 5 percent up to 25 percent.

Applicable charges such as stopovers or surcharges are not to be incremented.

Divide TPM by total MPM – 1.00 – 1.05 => 5% - 1.20 – 1.25 => 25%

Mileage principle involves measuring distances between points and comparing fares to/from intermediate cities to arrive at the correct through fare.

Through fare is the applicable fare for travel between two consecutive fare construction points via an intermediate point. Construct the fare using basic elements of mileage system:

1. MPM

2. TPM

3. EMA

4. EMS
