OVERVIEW:

Beginning in 2004, Microsoft started shipping 64-bit versions of Windows XP Professional. And, there are 64-bit editions of Windows Vista and Windows 7..

If you have purchased a computer with a 64-bit version of Windows, or are otherwise consdering running a 64-bit version of Windows, please be aware of the following limitations.

Application Works Yes/No Comment
Galileo Desktop Yes

Must use Galileo Desktop v2.1 and above.

With 64-bit versions of Windows XP and Vista,
the Control Panel Applet used to
make changes to Galileo Desktop is
found by selecting “show 32 Bit Control
Panel Items".

Windows 7 moves these items back
to the regular list of configurable items.

Desktop and other shortcuts
may not work properly. If so, the program
can be started from the Start,
All Programs, Galileo Desktop program group.

The installation of Galileo Desktop should be
done from a CD made from ISO image, or
from an extracted copy of the .ISO image. The
installation is likely to fail if done from the .EXE
download.

Galileo Print Manager No Installs but cannot be configured
Galileo SSL Yes Requires v01.00.0010 or above
Galileo IDS Yes See KB article
Globalware Client Yes Requires v4.20 and above
Focalpoint No
ScriptWriter Plus Build No "Build" is the creation and editing tool for scripts.
Nortel VPN Client No

PPTP works SOMETIMES.
Connection should be made using Galileo SSL instead.

SOLUTION:

If you have already purchased a computer with a 64-bit version of the Windows installed and find a need to use software which is known not to run properly in a 64-bit environment, there are a couple of options available;

  • Configure the computer to "dual boot" and install a 32-bit version of Windows as the alternate operating system. Use the 32-bit version of XP or Vista when you need access to Travelport's host systems.
  • Use VMWare Workstation from VMWare, Microsoft's Virtual PC or similar software to create a "virtual machine". Install a 32-bit version of Windows XP or Vista in this "guest computer". Install the Travelport software on the 32-bit version of Windows running on the "guest computer". Note, some version of Windows 7 include the ability to run "XP Mode". See Microsoft's web sites for more information about "XP Mode".

Licensing for VMWare, Virtual PC, XP Mode, etc., and for the 32-bit version of Windows you choose are the responsibility of the person using or providing the computer. Travelport's support of this solution is limited to configuring and operating Travelport software. Travelport staff CANNOT assist you in the installation of or configuration of a virtual computer.
