Galileo Print Manager™ (GPM)

Galileo Print Manager

Galileo Print Manager™ (GPM) takes the place of traditional print server hardware by using software to manage printing needs. It is a Windows based program which offers options such as the ability to print itineraries to any network printer on your network, laser printers included, and the ability to transmit accounting data (MIRs) directly to a hard drive on your network without the need for a "MIR cable".

Note:  If you are using a firewall in your configuration, you may need to refer to the Firewall web page on this site for additional information.

Hardware Requirements
  • The minimum hardware requirements are:
  • A PC running Windows 98 or above ¹
  • 15MB available hard disk space ¹
  • Token Ring or Ethernet Network Adapter Card
  • Galileo Print Manager™ REQUIRES at least one available RS232 serial COM port for each ticket printer which will be connected to the PC running GPM.
    • COM1 for the 1st ticket printer
    • Additional COM ports will be needed if there will be more than one ticket printer or if  using a TI-810 dot matrix printer for your itineraries and invoices.
    • Galileo has certified the SIIG Quartet Serial 550 PCI, 4-port 550 UART serial PCI card, Part #: JJ-P04621-S6. You may obtain this card from directly from SIIG, from Omni Data Systems (you must log in to Omni Data's site to view this link), from many local computer stores, or from online from various sources.
  • Most other printers used to produce itineraries, invoices and other "hard copy" can be connected to GPM using parallel or Ethernet cables and will not require this second COM port.

¹ Note, RAM and hard disk space need to be appropriate for the computer and the version of Windows being used. Contact your computer manufacture or see Microsoft's web sites for these requirements. The hard disk space requirement listed here is just what is required to install GPM.

Software Requirements

The minimum software requirements are:

  • Windows 98SE
  • Windows 2000
  • 32-bit Windows XP
  • 32-bit Windows Vista ²
  • 32-bit Windows 7 ³
  • Internet Explorer version 5.0 or higher.
  • Galileo does not recommend you run GPM on server versions of Windows, mostly because GPM does not run as a "service".

NOTE, GPM will not run on 64-bit versions of Windows XP, Vista or Windows 7 or 64-bit versions of Windows Server. Windows 7 Professional and Windows 7 Ultimate include what Microsoft refers to as "Windows XP Mode". This "mode' allows you to run GPM in a "virtual machine". See Microsoft's web sites for more details on setting up a virtual XP computer inside of Windows 7 Professional or Windows 7 Ultimate. Once you have a working "XP Mode" virtual computer, GPM is installed on the "virtual machine" and configured the same way it is on any other 32-bit versions of Windows. Click here to see Microsoft's XP Mode information including hardware and software requirements.

If running a 64-bit version of Windows other then Windows 7 Professional or Windows 7 Ultimate and need to run Galileo Print Manager, there are options;

  • Locate or purchase a separate computer which to run a 32-bit version of Windows and Galileo Print Manager
  • Purchase a copy of VMWare Workstation and use a licensed copy of a 32-bit version of XP, Vista or Windows 7
  • Use Microsof's Virtual PC along with a licensed copy of a 32-bit version of XP, Vista or
    Windows 7
