The installation process and check follows.
Pre-Installation Check List
- Point to Point Protocol (PPP) connectivity - Virtual Private Network (VPN) using IPSEC (Security protocol)
The technical specifications to confirm with the ISP are:
- Support for RFC-2407 - IP addresses must be routable - Protocol 17 (UDP) Source Port 500 - Destination Port 500 for the ISAKMP/IPSEC Key management - Protocol 50 (ESP) and Protocol 51 (AH) for the IPSEC tunnel encapsulation
-
You may choose an ISP from the various DSL, Cable, T1 (full or partial) internet service providers. In general, satellite should be avoided if at all possible.
If you are using a broadband Internet connection like Cable or DSL and you will be connecting using more than one workstation, the ideal configuration options are:
-
Cable modem to connected to a Router which you provide. The router you provide will be used by computers within your office or home to share your Internet connection.
-
DSL modem or router connected to a Router which you provide. The router you provide will be used by computers within your office or home to share your Internet connection.
-
Your ISP may provide either static or dynamically assigned IP address(es). Either will work properly with Galileo's "FocalpointNet" products.
IMPORTANT NOTE: If your ISP supplies a router and not a modem the ISP's router MUST be set up in "bridge mode" so that they provide you with public "routable" IP address. If it is not setup in "bridge mode", you will be unable to establish a connection to Galileo's systems, and "FocalpointNet" will not function.
-
You may also use the NetGEAR FVS318 router. This router will also manage up to eight simultaneous VPN tunnels over a single public IP address.

You will need to download and install the latest firmware for each of these routers in order to provide optimum performance and ensure system stability.

Installation Check List
(Step #1) Database
-
Before installing FocalpointNet™, please locate your Client IDs (a.k.a User Names) and GTIDs (a.k.a. Passwords). Typically, these are provided to you in a letter or fax from the Installation Project Manager.
(Step #2) TCP/IP Network Properties
PLEASE NOTE: If you are converting to FocalpointNet from Focalpoint version 3.0 and will be utilizing the same workstations, you will also need to remove Focalpoint 3.0 from your system before installing FocalpointNet. FocalpointNet will operate in the Focalpoint 3.5 environment only. Focalpoint 3.5 is the base software included on the FocalpointNet installation CD and will load automatically.
Step #3a) Galileo Software Installation for US FocalpointNet Workstations running Galileo Desktop software.

Router Setup and Installation
-
If your ISP has provided you with only one public IP address, as an option, you may install the SMC 7004ABR (4-port), SMC 7004VBR (4-port), SMC 7008ABR (8-port) Barricade Routers, or NetGEAR FVS318 Router to share the Internet connection. In addition to sharing the Internet connection, this router, unlike most other routers, will also manage up to eight simultaneous VPN connections using the Nortel Contivity VPN Client software included with FocalpointNet. Each workstation will then establish and maintain its own VPN connection.
IMPORTANT NOTE: Upon installation of this router a firmware upgrade may be required. The link to the various instructions based on router version are indicated below and include the firmware upgrade procedures. See links below:
