Microsoft released their new Windows Vista operating system on January 30, 2007.
This page is intended to answer questions about Galileo products for our customers who are using this version of Windows.
The following Galileo products have been tested and do work with Windows Vista.
The following Galileo products should not be used on Windows Vista
- Focalpoint v3.5 and earlier versions of Focalpoint
- Relay Tools v3.0 for Focalpoint v3.5
- ScriptWriter for Focalpoint v3.5
- Note, the functionality of Relay, ScriptWriter Plus and Viewpoint are built into the Galileo Desktop software. Do not attempt to install these older "stand alone", "after market" products on top of your installation of Galileo Desktop.
Note #1 for Galileo Desktop v1.01 -
- Galileo Desktop v1.01 should no longer be installed. Microsoft has plans to disable the XML parser version (MSXML v4) upon which this this software depends. The date Microsoft will do this is planned for sometime between October and December 2007. Galleo Desktop v2.0 should be installed instead.
- Upon exiting Galileo Desktop v1.01, you may see an alert from Windows Vista indicating the "Viewpoint Application has stopped working. A problem caused the program to quit working properly. Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available". The error is cosmetic and causes no problems. Simply restart Galileo Desktop the next time you need to use it. When we have a solution to this, we will post it here. Note, this problem does not apply to Galileo Desktop v2.0.
Note #2 - When the "Configurations" icon in the Galileo Print Manager (GPM) group is clicked, an error indicating there is no file extension for the program. Instructions for making changes to and configuring GPM can be found here. (PDF file, you may right click and Save Target As). AFTER reading the directions, if you wish to replace the existing "Configurations" shortcut, click here to obtain the new shortcut. The shortcut is in WinZIP format. Select Save Target As and save the ZIP file to your desktop. Use WinZIP to extract the new shortcut to the Galileo Print Manager program group. The new link is called Configurations On Vista,
Note #3 - Anti-virus software and personal firewall software for Windows Vista may affect your ability to use Galileo products. While Galileo cannot possibly provide documentation on how to configure all of these programs, we will add what we can to the notes at the bottom of our "Firewalls" page.
